Govt needs to implement PM Fasal Bima Yojana, remain alert on weather forecast: BJP

The State Government should immediately direct all the concerned departments to deal with any situation in view of the weather forecast which has warned of avalanche, snowfall and heavy rain in Jammu and Kashmir. The State unit of BJP assures of every sort of help to the administration, if needed, said party State General Secretary Dr. Narinder Singh, while drawing the attention of the government to the reports that fresh snowfall and rains may result in avalanches and landslides in some place across this northern-most state.

Dr. Narinder Singh said that whenever there is natural calamity, it causes destruction and loss of lives and property. The worst affected by such natural calamities are farmers as their standing crops gets damaged and their livestock perish.
Stressing on adoption and implementation of ‘Prime Minister Fasal Bima Yojana’ in the State at the earliest, Dr. Narinder Singh said that the farmers are totally dependent on the agriculture produce for their survival and loss to their crops create mental stresses among them, which at times force them to commit suicides. He said that the implementation of PM ‘Fasal Bima Yojana’ will benefit the affected farmers if their crop is damaged at any stage, right from sowing to harvesting.
“PM Fasal Bima Yojana has been launched with an objective to provide insurance coverage and financial support to the farmers in the event of failure of any of the notified crop as a result of natural calamities, pests & diseases; stabilise the income of farmers to ensure their continuance in farming; encourage farmers to adopt innovative and modern agricultural practices and ensure flow of credit to the agriculture sector”, said Dr. Narinder adding that the Jammu and Kashmir government should immediately implement this Yojana.
Dr. Singh further said that the state administration should also gear up and keep its Disaster Management Departments ready to meet any eventuality so that there is no loss of life or damage to any kind of property / crops. The people should also remain alert in view of untimely rains last year leading to raging floods and colossal damage to life and property.
