Regular drives being conducted to remove encroachments in Srinagar city: Dy CM Dr Nirmal Singh

Dy CM Dr Nirmal Singh informed the Legislative Council that regular drives are being conducted on daily basis for removal of encroachments in Srinagar city.

The Deputy Chief Minister was replying to a Calling Attention Notice by legislator Zafar Iqbal Manhas to call the attention of government towards situation that has arisen due to the manipulative erection of unauthorized business establishments across National Highway and adjoining roads near grid station Sanat Nagar and dumping of garbage giving way to assembly of dogs.

Dr Singh further informed the House that it is a fact that the number of restaurants, bakery shops, tea stalls, timber depots etcetera across NHW and adjoining Circular road near Grid Station at Sanat Nagar Bye Pass have come up during the last three to four decades. In this regard, a survey is being conducted for taking further remedial measures.

“As and when any encroachment is reported or noticed action is taken swiftly and massive drives are being conducted on daily basis for removal of encroachments from footpaths and roadsides in Srinagar city by anti-encroachment squad,” he said.

Regarding open garbage shed near Grid Station Rawalpora, Dr Singh said that the same has been replaced by installation of big dumper.

Furthermore, the Deputy Chief Minister informed that the garbage of the area is being collected in early morning and shifted in the big dumper for onward transportation to landfill site for further treatment under Solid Waste Management Rules.
