Sat stresses upon completion of Salal project, construction of Tube Wells and Over Head Tanks in Jammu

During the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly, BJP State President & MLA Jammu West Sat Sharma (CA) greeted the people of Jammu and Kashmir on the holy occasion of “Nirjala Ekadashi” and stressed upon saving one of the most valuable things in human life i.e water. Sharma raised the problems concerning water during the grants session of PHE department.
He said that water is a necessity in daily life of a human being and no doubt that next world war on our planet will be on the issue of water and taking in view all the major facts concerning water supply, many areas of Jammu city have been facing the shortfall of water supply in their areas in this scorching heat.
Giving details about the shortfall of water supply, he stated that a total of 47.5 million gallons is the total requirement of Jammu city in terms of consumption of water and 45.5 million gallons is available from the side of the department, which makes a shortfall of 2 million gallons per day. Moreover, there are several areas in the city which are facing the problems of breakage & leakage of water pipes, contamination of water in several areas and power cuts in the city also affect their supply, to which residents of Jammu are facing lots of problems.
He appealed the Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Choudhary to look into the matter and stressed upon speedily expedition of construction of 19 Tube Wells and 10 Over Head Tanks in the city before the end of this year in order to overcome the problem in the coming times so that residents of Jammu city do not face any problem concerning water in their areas.
He also stated that the DPR (Detailed Project Report) for Salal water supply scheme has been prepared by the department and Central Government has found it technically feasible as well to implement the scheme and a total estimate of Rupees 800 crores has been prepared for the same as well, which will be financed under JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency).
He also requested the Minister to focus on construction of Check Dams in Kandi areas as well in order to increase the water level.
Sharma also briefed about his initiative of saving water under the banner of “Save Water Save Life” and appealed every member in the house and the residents of the State as well, to work on such type of things in order to protect one of the precious resources in human lives.
