Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Chaudhary chaired a meeting of officers of the department to review the water supply position in Jammu. The Minister enquired about the regularity, timings and purity of water being supplied to the people of Jammu. MLA Jammu (West) Sat Sharma was also present in the meeting, who informed the Minister about various problems being faced by the people in his constituency due to non-availability of water in some areas. Keeping in view the monsoon season , the Minister directed the officers to clean the water tanks regularly, besides maintaining cleanliness in and around the pumping stations, to ensure that clean drinking water reaches to the people. The Minister directed the senior engineers and officers of the department to regularly conduct field visits for checking water supply position and inform him about new steps being taken by them for augmenting water supply in their respective areas. Reiterating his commitment to ensure regular water supply in every village of the State, the Minister directed the officers to regularly check motors and water pumps installed at pumping stations in villages and far flung areas, besides ensuring that the farmers get adequate water supply for irrigation purposes as well. No negligence on part of any officer would be tolerated and strict action would be taken against those indulging in malpractices, he added. The Minister further said that the Government is committed to provide clean drinking water in the State and water tankers would be provided in those areas where water supply gets hampered due to any unavoidable circumstances. In the meeting, MLA Sat Sharma informed the Minister that two tube wells in his constituency, one at Janipur Park and other at Rudraksh temple, need immediate repair for improving the water supply in these areas. The MLA also asked the officers of the PHE Department to provide him details about the departmental works going on in his constituency and the new plans of the department for streamlining water supply in the city. Chief Engineer PHE, Jammu Susheel Aima, senior engineers and Executive Engineers of the department were present in the meeting.
