Youth to be ambassadors of “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Mission”: Bijral

Addressing students, girls and boys, of Govt Degree College Akhnoor, S.S.Bijral IPS IGP(Rtd), chief guest of function, gave a call to them to be ambassadorS for great national cause ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ in subdivision Akhnoor of Jammu District.

State Committee of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao has constituted district and block level committees in length and breadth of the J&k state for creating mass awareness towards female foeticide that has critically disturbed Child Sex Ratio in six districts namely Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Pulwama, Anantnag and Budgam. This was the first function organised by Akhnoor Committee of eleven members headed by Jagdish Raj Bhagat. Bijral who is also BBBP State Committee Convener, talking to students in presence of college faculty, impressed upon them to understand the beautiful gender based system of Nature where without the role of the two sexes the procreation and continuation of life is impossible. One sex complements role of other. He said that the century old bias against girl child , future mother, has to be ended when mother stands the holiest and most loving of relations. He called upon them to let this illogical and misplaced discrimination against girl child be talk of every home. The youth shall have to act as ‘AMBASSADORS’ for this change in the interest of their ownself and nation, he said.
Block Medical Officer Akhnoor, Vinod Kumar addressing gathering in a heart moving narration explained role of two sexes in procreation, in particular the male and female chromosomes that determine sex of new born to be. He blasted the general taboo of woman being responsible for the baby born to be female. He dealt at length positive and negative role of sonography and the penal provisions of Pre-Natal Diagnostic Determination Techniques Act. He exhorted youth to be informer against misuse of sonography so that the evil of female foeticide is exterminated from society.
Jagdish Raj Bhagat explained as to how they have taken to seek help of ASHA workers, Anganwari, midwives, nurses and others to fight this menace in their area. He thanked state committee for having shouldered him with responsibility of great national cause In Akhnoor.
Anju Dogra, member state Committee beautifully anchored the function. Quoting poetic verses composed regarding beauty of girl child and her role in society, she enthralled the audience. Prof. Monica Malhotra paid vote of thanks.
